CED 116, GUM 39,

CED 116(also known as GUM 39 and GUM 40) is an emission nebulae in the southern Centaurus constellation. The two nebulas GUM 39,40 are contiguous but I believe they are better presented as separate nebulas. GUM 39 featured here is part of the Running Chicken nebula complex, about 6.500 light years from earth, and corresponds to the ‘head’ of the ‘chicken’. Gum 39  is a bright emission nebula centered around the blue, hot star O6 V HD9989. It has somewhat the appearance  of the Rosette nebula. The link https://andysastro.com/2019/02/20/stars-gas-of-the-running-chicken-nebula/  shows the entire running chicken nebula and GUM 39 is the head located on the top, left. The image is a true color L,RGB image with the addition of narrowband Hydrogen alpha imaging shown in its natural color of red to add detail to the image.  The image was taken with a 24″ Planewave telescope in Rio Hurtado Chile at a reduced focal ration of f 4.3 giving it a larger field of view.
