NGC 1871, N30, N44, N50,N51, This composite image shows a large area of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) located in the southern  constellation Dorado. The LMC is a small satellite galaxy of the Milky Way located about 160,000 light years from Earth. This overall image includes three separate images including NGC 1871 & N30, N44, and M50,51. These objects are named in the composite image. There are three separate images showing the NGC 1871 and N30 complex, N44, and N50 & N51 shown in sequence following the composite image. The NGC 1871 is a star cluster in the N30 nebula complex. N44 contains a superbubble structure that is shaped by the radiation pressure of a 40-star group located near its center, and N50 and N51 are a complex nebula formed by supernovae. The “N”designations are for nebulae in the LMC and there are 236 of these. The Red color in the image comes from  Hydrogen atoms, Green from Sulfur emission and Blue from Oxygen emission.
