NGC 3247,  NGC 3247 lies about 12,000 light-years away, a glowing cosmic cloud in the nautical southern constellation of Carina. It has the shape of a womans’s head with a pony tail.  NGC 3247  is home to over 2,000 stars and contains more than 300 protostars. Of note, on the far right side is the Westerlund 2 star cluster, which includes some of the hottest, brightest and most massive stars known. The uv light from this cluster is responsible for the emission from the nebula as it excites the Hydrogen and Oxygen gasses which re-emit the light. The red color comes from Sulfur emission, the green color in the image comes from Hydrogen emission  and the blue color comes from Oxygen emission. The image is a composite of two separate images. The overall image was taken with an Astro Physics RH305 telescope in Australia and the detail of NGC 3247 taken by a Planewave CDK17 telescope in Chile.

Optics: Astro Physics RH305, Planewave CDK17
Mount: Software Bisque Paramount ME
Camera: SBIG STXL 16200, SBIG STXL 11002
Filters: Astrodon 3nm Sii,Ha,Oiii
Dates/Times: April 2012, March,April 2021
Location:   New South Wales, Australia, Rio Hurtado Chile
Exposure Details: SHO Image,RH305 30x30min, NGC 3247 60x30min for a total of 90 images over 52 hours
Acquisition: MaxIm DL
Processing: To match the scales the size of the RH305 image was doubled in size and the CDK17 image was roughly scaled by two thirds. A composite image was made for Ha, Sii, Oiii  from the images of the 2 separate images and then processing was done. MaxIm DL, StarNet++ used to remove stars in color SHO images. Photoshop CC2020 used to create Synthetic Luminance and to add color with color blending mode. The stars were toned down to give emphasis to the nebula.
